Bungee Jumping

Bungee jumping is fast becoming the most popular adrenaline sport and No.1 gift experience in the UK. With only an elastic cord wrapped around you, stand at a great height (up to 300ft!) feeling the adrenaline as your about to jump. Then experience the rush of free falling towards the earth before being catapulted back up into the air with no control whatsoever! Choose from indoor or outdoor, although we advise outdoor, as the scenery is much better. You can even enjoy it with a partner with a Lovers Leap Bungee Jump. A very enthusiastic and well-humoured instructor, who will perform a quick group brief on safety and do’s and don’ts on the day, normally welcomes you. Following this there is normally a standard procedure where all participants present on the day will be weighed to ensure they do not exceed the maximum weight requirements (you do not want to try to cheat this, especially with just an elastic cord stopping you from hitting the ground from 150 plus feet above).

You will then normally take your place in a line, which makes the activity even more scary (there is nothing worse than waiting when you are nervous!), as other participants make the leap and scream at the top of their lungs whilst you stand and watch!

Once you have reached the front of the queue (which even when short may seem like an eternity as your stomach is in knots) you will be strapped into a body harness with an elastic cord attached. Then it is time to walk slowly to the edge, look straight ahead or look down, and three - two - JUMP!

Once you have made the leap and bounced up and down a few times, and your breathing and heart rate slowly begins to return to normal, you will be lowered to the ground where members of staff will help you out of your harness.

Bungee jumping is very accessible in the UK as there are a number of venues located throughout. There are also various packages available to suit budgets or the lesser / bigger thrill seekers out there. If one bungee jump is not enough, try a double jump (you get to do it twice) or a forward and backward jump (known as FaB bungee jumping). We cannot image which would be worse, seeing the ground approach or not knowing how close you are getting!

Duration

Duration can depend on numbers on the day. After arriving, registration and introductions are out the way you will normally get in line or be allocated a time slot of which you will have to arrive on schedule for, if you miss it then another will be arranged and you will have to wait longer. You normally have to wait no longer than an hour on average.

Are spectators welcome

Always! They are required to cheer you on, provide encouragement or wind you up even more!

Are these experiences weather dependent?

Severe rain, snow or high winds can affect the jump; however, they do not normally run during the winter months. When in doubt, we advise you to contact the venue prior to departing to double check.

Other information

Minimum age requirement for all bungee jumping is fourteen years of age; anyone under the age of sixteen will require parental consent. A Doctor’s certificate is required and needs to be presented if you are fifty years of age or over.

There is a maximum weight requirement of 120kg (at some venues it is 115kg).

If any of the following conditions apply to you, it is advisable not to partake (in some cases not permitted) in these activities:

high blood pressure

dizziness

heart condition

pregnancy

epilepsy

neurological conditions

asthma

diabetes

If you suffer pain or previous damage to your back and neck areas or ankles and eyes, it is recommended to seek medical advice before considering these activities.

Glasses and hard contact lenses are not permitted.

If you are deemed to be under the influence of alcohol, you will not be allowed to jump.
